Masa Hoss is a multidisciplinary artist working across fine art photography and sumi painting.

Her practice explores the symbolic and emotional dimensions of the natural world. Drawing on a longstanding engagement with both Western and Eastern artistic traditions, Hoss creates contemplative works that invite reflection. She moves intuitively between observation and interpretation, where water, birds, trees, and ephemeral moments become vessels for meaning.

Process and materiality are integral to the intent of each body of work. In her current series, images are created kinetically in-camera through intentional defocus and a compressed tonal range, allowing light, atmosphere, and form to emerge from the moment with minimal intervention. Printed on natural Kozo paper, hand-finished with beeswax and damar resin, and built through layered construction, the works possess a quiet luminosity that extends the immersive quality of the image while honouring a nature-kind approach to preservation.
