The Sanctuary brings the quiet presence of the natural world to the viewer. Through simplicity of form, space, light, and movement, these minimalist portraits of seabirds offer a sense of calm, contemplation, and connection.

This body of work forms part of an extensive photographic study of the seabirds of Ricketts Point Marine Sanctuary in Beaumaris, Victoria. Many of the works include the distinctive landforms of Port Phillip Bay, grounding the images in place and bearing witness to the relationship between wildlife, coastline, and community that characterises this remarkable sanctuary.

The enduring wildness that persists within our urban landscapes reminds us of our place within a larger ecological community. In creating spaces of refuge for wildlife, we also create sanctuary for ourselves, where our relationship with the living world is renewed.
